Transerv Scotland to Implement changes to Langbank Roundabout
Scotland Transerv have outlined plans to upgrade the Langbank Roundabout. Vincent Tait of Transerv Scotland recently met with LCC's Chairman Neil Barrington and advised the following improvements.
Change the rough surface at the east and west A8 entrances to the roundabout from brown to black. This is to allow the yellow warning stripes/rumble strips to stand out more clearly and to improve the grip for stopping purposes.
Renew the rumble strips themselves and make them slightly higher and more pronounced.
TranServ have tried to clean the black and white tiles surrounding the roundabout to make it more visible from a distance, but this proved unsatisfactory and have now decided to paint/coat them.
Erecting new and illuminated warning signs of the approach to the roundabout. These will be powered by solar panels to reduce on-going costs.
Erecting black screening/fencing in the centre of the carriageways - on the west bound approach to the roundabout, in an effort to cut down the accidents into the barrier between the exit from Main Road and the turn towards Greenock.
Remove foliage and a lone tree on the LHS at the exit of Main Road onto the A8. This is designed to allow clearer vision for east bound drivers, of all traffic exiting Langbank onto the A8.
Some of this work has not been tried on this type of road/junction in Scotland previously and thus we are somewhat of a trial.
All of this work has been agreed and is to be completed by the end of this financial year – ie by March end 2016.
