Langbank Primary School has received a grant of £10,000 from "Awards for all Scotland"This funding will be put straight into improvements to the school grounds and the play areas. Awards for All Scotland gives groups a chance to apply for a grant of between £500 and £10,000 for projects that aim to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need. They will fund a range of projects which involve bringing local people together, helping people learn, improving local spaces and getting people more active.
Bishopton Primary School also received an equal amount that will be used for a similar purpose.
Congratulating the local schools, local MSP Derek Mackay said:
“The recent announcement of this funding from Awards for All Scotland is fantastic news, and I would like to congratulate both Primary Schools on securing these grants. Improvements to the playground and play areas within these two schools are long overdue and this funding will be a much sought after boost for them.”
“Good quality playgrounds and play equipment can benefit pupils in many ways and helps them to develop skills that may not be focused on within the classroom. The physical benefits are clear but children can also develop in areas as diverse as social skills, creativity, problem solving, reasoning and language.”
“Boosting the skills, health and confidence of our young people is of utmost importance, and it’s great to see local groups and schools actively pursuing this within the community. I know that this will come as welcome news to the parents and teachers who have fought hard to secure this funding and I am sure that once these works are completed, the pupils will enjoy the benefits too.”
