Village Community Centre update
Derek Viola of RDC had onsite visit and met with Iain to discuss the situation around external lighting and condition of car park. The following action plans were discussed and Derk would take these proposals to RC:
➢ Resurfacing of the access road - RC
➢ Low level, unintrusive lighting of the access road and pathways inward (1mt high bollards for ex). This will need further design and may require planning application . Will also require engagement from the surrounding neighbours. - RC
➢ Renewal of wall mounted luminaires on the building (x3). It was agreed that the committee should take this forward.
Believed that contractors have since been seen on site measuring the access road area, Iain received an initial email response but no further feedback from Derek, he will follow up once he returns from holiday.
Hall neighbours have been contacted to advise on possible plans for car park lighting.

We are still awaiting an update from Transport Scotland following the meeting regarding what steps they intend to take both in the interim and long-term to address the issues surrounding the roundabout. Cllr Airlie Nicolson’s report
A8 Roundabout Brief update;
A meeting was held on the 19th of April with Gavin Newlands: MP, Neil Barrington: Langbank Community Council, Alasdair Sim: Transport Scotland, Neil Lang, the Area Operations Manager for Transport Scotland, Vincent Tait: Amey, Ashley Ross: parliamentary assistant and myself.
The meeting was called for an update on progress regarding the safety issues arising from the design of the roundabout and in order to respond to the survey which had been completed by the residents in the village to contribute to ensure all views were considered. The focus from transport Scotland is on actual reported accidents figures. This does not include accidents which are not reported or near misses. Various suggestions were put forward in terms of increasing signage etc but it was relayed by Neil and ourselves that the drivers do not always currently take notice of signage therefore it is unlikely that more signage alone will resolve the issue.
The potential of average speed cameras was proposed by Gavin and he has asked that consideration is given to this. Traffic lights were also proposed. We are awaiting a response from Transport Scotland and Amey on the way forward.
Celebrating Renfrewshire Fund
Celebrating Renfrewshire is a £150,000 fund for young people, by young people. It is available for young people aged 12-25, and groups who work with young people this age, from across Renfrewshire who have an idea to make their community better for them.
The fund uses a Participatory Budgeting process (PB) which encourages young people and youth-led organisations to develop ideas for their community and apply for funding for that idea.
Young people across Renfrewshire will then be supported to vote for the project ideas which make Renfrewshire a better place for young people to live.
Applications are open until midnight on Monday 27 May 2024.
Integration joint board
Following a special meeting on Monday the 29th of April the proposal to merge Mirin and Milldale day centres was refused by the majority of voting members of the IJB .as a result both services will continue to operate. The integrated joint board members met with the carers and cared for and agreed at this time it would not be in the best interest to merge any of these services.
At the same meeting a proposal to close the flexi-care service was not agreed and as a result the service will continue but will be reviewed in partnership with those who utilised the service.
Community policing
I received a letter from Iain Livingston the chief constable who has highlighted that delays in recruitment and increased officer retiral's is currently an issue in terms of retaining police numbers.
He has committed that officer numbers will remain at the 1600 . However, he has highlighted that some changes will be proposed in terms of policing priorities. They will be looking to engage with partners about how the police are meeting demand. He further advised that they will be sharing more information and undertaking further engagement about any changes to the current arrangements.
Voter I.D.
Ahead of a UK General Election being called, due to take place before 25 January 2025, you need to be aware of an important change to voting for this election.
For the first time in Renfrewshire, you will need to have voter identification (ID) to cast your vote following the introduction of new legislation by the UK Government.
Accepted forms of ID include a passport, driving licence, older persons or disabled persons bus pass and Young Scot card. You will be able to use expired ID if you are still recognisable from the photo.
If you don’t have one of the accepted forms of ID, you can apply for free ID to allow you to vote.
If you need more information or have any questions you can speak with the Electoral Registration Office for support.
